General

2-Butanol, also known as sec-butanol or 2-butyl alcohol, is a four-carbon straight-chain alcohol with the chemical formula C4H10O. It is a clear, colorless liquid with a slightly sweet odor. 2-Butanol is soluble in water and organic solvents, and it has a relatively low boiling point, making it a useful solvent for a variety of applications.

2-Butanol is commonly used as a solvent for coatings, resins, and cellulose esters in the production of lacquers, varnishes, and other surface coatings. It is also used as a starting material for the production of other chemicals, such as butyl acrylate and butyl acetate.
