What is Butyl Acetate? It is an organic compound with the formula CH3CO2(CH2)3CH3. A colourless, flammable liquid, it is the ester derived from n-butanol and acetic acid. It is found in many types of fruit, where it imparts characteristic flavours and has a sweet smell of banana or apple. It is used as an industrial solvent.

Frequent Uses

Industrial solvent
Used primarily in coatings, paints, and inks. It is a good solvent with low volatility. The lacquer and enamel industries employ butyl acetate as a solvent for making acylic polymers, vinyl resins, and nitrocellulose.

Fragrances
In perfumes it evaporates quickly, leaving the scent of the perfume on the skin.
