It's a naturally occurring compound, found in many fruits and vegetables, and is also produced industrially from glucose or sucrose. D-Sorbitol is commonly used as a sweetener, humectant, and texturising agent in various food, cosmetic, and pharmaceutical products.

Food and Drink
D-Sorbitol is about half as sweet as sucrose (table sugar) and is often used as a sugar substitute in foods like sugar-free sweets, gums, and baked goods. Also functions as a bulking agent, thickener, and texture modifier in various food products.

Humectant
It attracts and retains moisture, making it useful in cosmetics and personal care products to prevent dryness. 

Pharmaceutical
As an excipient in various pharmaceutical formulations to improve their texture, stability, and solubility.

Research
Used in various research applications, including cell culture and as a stabiliser in some experiments.
