What is Glycerol? It is a simple polyol (sugar alcohol) compound. It is a colourless, odourless, viscous liquid that is widely used in pharmaceutical formulations. Alternate names for Glycerol (chemical formula C3H8O3) include glycerine (or glycerin), Propanetriol, and Trioxypropane.

Food and drink industry
A common additive in many food and drink formulations due to its various properties. Its water binding properties help preserve cakes and biscuits, preventing them from drying. Its viscous texture can add thickness and smoothness to liquids.

Regularly used in moisturisers, lotions, shampoos and conditioners due to its water attracting and retaining properties, meaning glycerol is a humectant.
