General

Hexane is an isomeric mixture of hydrocarbons with six carbon atoms per molecule, with the molecular formula C6H14. The isomeric mixture of hexane is composed of several isomers, including n-hexane, 2-methylpentane, 3-methylpentane, 2,3-dimethylbutane, and 2,2-dimethylbutane, among others. The ratio of each isomer in the mixture can vary depending on the source and production method.

Hexane is a clear, colourless, and highly flammable liquid with a low boiling point of 69°C. It is insoluble in water but miscible with most organic solvents. The physical and chemical properties of each isomer in the hexane mixture may vary, but the overall properties of the mixture are similar to those of pure n-hexane.
