What is Periodic Acid? It is an oxoacid of iodine, existing in two main forms: orthoperiodic acid (H₅IO₆) and metaperiodic acid (HIO₄). It is a colourless, crystalline compound that is a moderately strong oxidising agent and is used in various applications, including organic chemistry for structural analysis and synthesis, and in histological staining techniques.

Consistent Quality: We provide only high-quality Periodic Acid, ensuring reliable and consistent performance for all applications.

Shipped from Manchester, UK Facility: Sourced and packaged in non-toxic, chemical-resistant containers to ensure safe handling and preserve product quality during transport.

Frequent Uses

Cleaving Agent
Known for its ability to cleave vicinal diols (compounds with hydroxyl groups on adjacent carbon atoms) into aldehydes or ketones. This property is particularly useful in determining the structure of carbohydrates.

Histology
A key component in the Periodic Acid-Schiff (PAS) stain, which is used to detect polysaccharides, glycoproteins, and other carbohydrates in tissue samples.

Dyes
Its oxidising properties make it useful in the synthesis of dyes and colourants.

Water Quality Testing
Can be used to measure organic compounds and pollutants in water samples.

Photography
Used to improve the wet strength of photographic paper.
