What is Potassium Periodate? It is an inorganic salt with the chemical formula KIO₄. It is composed of a potassium cation and a periodate anion. Analytical Chemistry
It is a useful oxidising agent for determining the presence and quantity of various substances, including potassium and cerium. Also used in the spectrophotometric estimation of manganese in soil and fertiliser samples.

Employed in organic chemistry to cleave glycols (compounds with two hydroxyl groups on adjacent carbons) and oxidise alcohols.
