Sodium Carbonate Anhydrous

  • Used in the manufacture of glass
  • Used as relatively strong base in various settings (such as pH regulator)
  • Common additive in municipal pools used to neutralise the corrosive effects of chlorine
  • Used in place of sodium hydroxide for lyeing
  • Used as an electrolyte in chemistry
  • Domestic use

What is Sodium Carbonate? Also known as soda ash or washing soda, it is an inorganic compound with the chemical formula Na₂CO₃. It's a white, odourless, and water-soluble salt that forms an alkaline solution. It's commonly used in various industrial and household applications, including glass manufacturing, soap and detergent production, water softening, and as a cleaning agent.

Consistent Quality: We provide only high-quality Sodium Carbonate, ensuring reliable and consistent performance for all applications.

Shipped from Manchester, UK Facility: Sourced and packaged in non-toxic, chemical-resistant containers to ensure safe handling and preserve product quality during transport.

Frequent Uses

Glass Manufacturing
Serves as a flux for silica (SiO2, melting point 1,713 °C), lowering the melting point of the mixture to something achievable without special materials. This "soda glass" is mildly water-soluble, so some calcium carbonate is added to the melt mixture to make the glass insoluble. Bottle and window glass ("soda–lime glass" with transition temperature ~570 °C) is made by melting such mixtures of sodium carbonate, calcium carbonate, and silica sand.

Soap and Detergent Production
Used in the manufacturing of soaps and detergents.

Water Softening
Helps to soften water by removing calcium and magnesium ions. Sodium carbonate is a water-soluble source of carbonate. The calcium and magnesium ions form insoluble solid precipitates upon treatment with carbonate ions

Buffers
Used to adjust the pH in various industrial processes and applications.

Photography
Used as a pH regulator to maintain stable alkaline conditions necessary for the action of the majority of photographic film developing agents.

Textiles
Employed as mordant to ensure proper chemical bonding of the dye with cellulose (plant) fiber.
